Project Blue Ocean - ONEFEE Serve

CHALLENGE

When the global recession began biting into the New Zealand economy, Origin IT discovered that its SMB clients or client referrals (ten to twenty network users in size with one to two servers) all faced a similar challenge: - cash-flow and/or access to finance required to invest in a network upgrade.

Finance lending requirements rapidly became an overwhelming obstacle for these businesses that needed an upgraded network to compete and grow in their markets during the recession, but quite simply couldn’t afford it.

Origin IT could scope and consult to its existing and potential clients with network solutions, but simply couldn’t sell the costly deals to these businesses, despite a genuine business need.

SOLUTION

Origin IT made the bold decision to solve this dilemma by investing in infrastructure itself, becoming a player in the increasingly attractive global business strategy for movement toward ‘cloud services’ (i.e. ‘servers as a service’ or an operating expense, as opposed to a capital expense).

Origin’s Directors spent considerable time carefully investigating the viability of designing an in-house solution, to deliver customers ‘servers in the cloud’ for a fixed monthly fee.  This latest product from Origin IT is called ONEFEE SERVE.

This ‘per user’, fixed monthly fee offers a complete solution to the dilemma mentioned earlier – businesses can now access up-to-the-minute server capability without having to bear the significant up-front investment required for investment in such equipment as a capital expense.

Origin IT researched the best solutions, and dealt with only the best-of-breed Vendors when creating its solution. It ended up selecting HP Blade and Left Hand SAN infrastructure, then recruited the very best available people to implement the design and build. Feedback directly from HP after inspecting the scope and build of the ONEFEE SERVE structure confirmed the premium quality of the build – the email below from HP is testament to the extreme quality of the workmanship and build of the project.

Thought I’d drop you a quick line to tell you about your tech  who did your blade and lefthand roll out.

Well what can I say, he read all the doc’s correctly and his questions and therefore his understanding is better of both blade, Flex10 and LeftHand than any other tech in a  channel partner I’ve seen in NZ.

He’s one of the few outstanding techies.

You can always tell a really good tech when he isn’t afraid to ask questions, outstanding work and all to best practice and I look forward to working more closely with all the team in the future.

Very few of his caliber around he’s a keeper.

RESULT

ONEFEE SERVE offers a compelling solution to Server requirements of New Zealand mid-market businesses that cant or don’t want to invest up-front in expensive new Server infrastructure, or obtain the finance to do so.

It delivers clients the highest level of infrastructure on a ‘cost per month’ basis providing them their SBS and Terminal Servers from the cloud, and letting clients get on with their core business without finance hanging over their heads, or the stress of having to go to banks for a loan.

Clients can instead invest capital (which would otherwise be tied up in their infrastructure-upgrade) into other important and pressing purchases for the business.

ONEFEE SERVE is being adopted enthusiastically by several clients and has the capability to serve hundreds of businesses and thousands of users.
